Taiwan KMT bigwig Fu warns Lai not to 'pick fight' with China
TAIPEI -- One of Taiwan's most formidable opposition politicians warned new President Lai Ching-te against riling China and vowed to press ahead with controversial legislation in an exclusive interview with Nikkei Asia.
"We should be friends with all countries. We can be friends with the U.S. and Japan, but why should we be hostile to China? Lai has embraced the wrong logic by picking a fight with our bread and butter," said Fu Kun-chi, the parliamentary leader for Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang (KMT), referring to the importance of the Chinese market for Taiwan's exports.
