South Korean election: Yoon's party projected to suffer defeat
SEOUL -- South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's ruling party appeared set for a significant defeatin national legislative elections held on Wednesday, results of exit polling released by three major South Korean broadcasters showed, with the main opposition party projected to increase its majority.
While official counting began after the polls closed at 6 p.m. local time, broadcasters KBS, MBC and SBS all released projections based on joint surveys with similar but slightly different tallies. KBS reported the opposition Democratic Party is projected to expand its majority in the unicameral National Assembly, winning between 178 and 196 seats. The national broadcaster's figures indicated that Yoon's People Power Party is in line to win between 87 and 105 seats. The Democrats held 154 seats before the election, more than the 114 held by the PPP.
