South Korea and U.S. hold largest combined air force drills

KUNSAN AIR BASE, South Korea -- U.S. and South Korean F-35 fighter jets emit an ear-splitting roar as they take off into sunny spring skies from Kunsan Air Base, down the coast on the Yellow Sea from heavily armed North Korea.

The flights are part of the largest combined air exercises that the U.S. and South Korea hold on the Korean Peninsula. This year's live-fire drills are the biggest ever, officials said, with more than 100 aircraft taking part.
