South Korean central bank proposes lower pay for foreign care workers
SEOUL -- South Korea's central bank raised eyebrows this week with an unexpected proposal: To help solve the economic challenges connected with the aging population, the country ought to bring in foreign care workers and pay them less than the minimum wage.
If acted upon, the bank's proposal would mark a significant departure from South Korea's standards for employment of foreign workers. While the country has in recent years dramatically increased the number of foreign workers it accepts, they are all entitled to the same minimum wage as locals.
