Singapore PM Lawrence Wong vows to lead in 'own way' at inauguration
SINGAPORE -- Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong vowed to take a different approach to leadership than his predecessors, while he was sworn in as the city-state's first new head of government in two decades on Wednesday night.
Wong, 51, took over the post from Lee Hsien Loong, 72, son of Singapore's late modern founding father Lee Kuan Yew. The Lees steered the city-state to become one of Asia's most prosperous countries over six decades, amid criticism of authoritarian rule.
