Modi government focuses on job creation in post-election budget

NEW DELHI -- The Indian government plans to spend 2 trillion rupees ($24 billion) over the next five years to create more jobs, a move expected to benefit over 40 million youth, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Tuesday as part of the country's budget.

Total expenditure this fiscal year is projected at 48.21 trillion rupees, up by 8.5% from actual spend in the previous fiscal year, based on provisional figures. Total receipts, other than borrowings, are estimated at 32.07 trillion rupees.
