Japan banks face fresh money laundering test after past failure
TOKYO -- Japanese banks' anti-money laundering measures will face a review by an international organization in August 2028, following a previous screening in which the country received a failing grade.
An estimated $800 billion to $2 trillion is laundered worldwide each year, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Action by financial institutions is considered critical to combating the crime.
