Japan and China start new talks on Fukushima water release
TOKYO -- Japan and China have launched a new round of discussions regarding the release of treated wastewater from the disaster-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, based on an agreement from a November summit, Nikkei has learned.
Officials from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry were among those who took part in the unannounced meeting earlier this year. They are believed to have urged understanding of Japan's stance, stressing that the safety of the process is being monitored in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
