Infineon CEO says Asia 'critical' for chip production, R&D plans

KULIM, Malaysia/TAIPEI -- Asia is "extremely critical" to Infineon's growth strategy as the top European chipmaker expands its operations in the region to tap AI and automotive demand, CEO Jochen Hanebeck told Nikkei Asia.

Hanebeck, who came to Malaysia for the opening of Infineon's biggest power chip plant, highlighted the importance of Southeast Asia -- including Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia -- as well as India and Taiwan.
