Biden calls Zelenskyy 'President Putin' ahead of key news conference
WASHINGTON -- In what could be one of the most consequential events of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, President Joe Biden was holding a news conference Thursday night at the conclusion of the NATO Summit in Washington.
This marks the first time the 81-year-old president has held such a briefing since his June 27 debate with former President Donald Trump, which was widely described by analysts as "disastrous" and cast doubt on his fitness. But even before the news conference began, roughly an hour later than scheduled, Biden slipped up at an earlier appearance by mistakenly referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as "Putin."
