Bicycle parts maker Shimano faces lawsuit for defective products
SAKAI, Japan/TOKYO -- Japanese bicycle parts maker Shimano is facing a class action lawsuit in the U.S. from bike owners alleging the company "knowingly" marketed defective products.
The lawsuit involves Shimano cranksets -- components that transfer pedal power to the chain -- which the company manufactured in Japan between June 2012 and June 2019. In September 2023, Shimano issued a voluntary recall of the products for "a possible bonding separation issue."
