Bangladesh rebukes Myanmar over stray gunfire as border crisis brews
DHAKA -- Myanmar's raging conflict is spilling across the border into Bangladesh, striking fear into communities and raising concerns in Dhaka about a new refugee crisis.
Two people in Bangladeshi territory were killed by a stray mortar shell from Myanmar on Monday and least five more were injured by bullets the next day, reports said. Residents of villages closest to the border pass sleepless nights listening to a soundtrack of gunfire, while schools have been forced to close and some have fled to safer areas. At the same time, hundreds of people have crossed from Myanmar's Rakhine state into Bangladesh seeking shelter, including regime personnel.
