Australia vows to tackle 'national shame' of violence against women

SYDNEY -- Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday said the government will invest 925 million Australian dollars ($600 million) to help women escape violent relationships as the country's leaders face pressure to tackle the "national shame" of gender-based violence.

The funding was among a raft of measures announced following a meeting of the national cabinet, including the prime minister and leaders of the states and territories. The government will also focus on limiting children's access to internet pornography, tackling extreme misogyny online, banning the creation and distribution of deepfake porn and outlawing the malicious online release of personal information.
