Yen dives past 156.80 during Ueda news conference
TOKYO -- The Japanese currency fell sharply past 156 to the dollar on Friday, after the Bank of Japan held firm to its monetary policy, heightening threats of government intervention.
The yen gradually dropped to 156.81 during Bank of Japan Gov. Kazuo Ueda's closely watched news conference that wrapped up the two-day meeting. The currency has been sliding since the central bank's previous monetary policy meeting.
