Ukraine’s Zelensky to speak in Singapore on Sunday to seek support for peace plan at Shangri-La Dialogue: Kyiv source

“President Zelensky will speak at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on June 2,” a source in Kyiv told This Week in Asia. The regional security conference at the Shangri-La Hotel began on Friday and will end on Sunday.

It is understood that Zelensky is reaching out to the international community to back Ukraine’s 10-point peace plan to end Russia’s invasion of the country. The Russo-Ukrainian war has been raging since 2014, with its latest phase beginning on February 24, 2022, after Moscow announced a “special military operation” in Ukraine.

The peace formula includes the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine and the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity within internationally recognised borders following Ukraine’s declaration of independence in 1991.

It also seeks the release of all prisoners of war and deportees, punishing those responsible for war crimes, and free, full and safe navigation in the Black Sea and Azov Sea.

Zelensky’s planned visit to Singapore comes as Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been under sustained attacks from Russian missiles in recent days.

Zelensky is currently in Stockholm to attend the third Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit, with air defence and joint weapons production at the top of the agenda. He will be meeting the prime ministers of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland, as well as the president of Finland.
