TSMC aims to ready next-gen silicon photonics for AI in 5 years
TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and top global chip designers and suppliers are ramping up development of next-generation silicon photonic solutions, aiming to have the technology ready for production in the next three to five years.
Their efforts come amid an industrywide push to tackle the massive energy and faster data transmission speeds needed by the AI computing boom. Silicon photonics, which combines silicon chips with optic technology, promises improvements on both these fronts.
