Tiananmen, 35 years on: Hong Kong muzzled as world marks June 4 crackdown

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Victoria Park was once the site of annual candlelight vigils in memory of the bloody crackdown on unarmed students and other pro-democracy protesters in central Beijing. But on Tuesday, the 35th anniversary of the violence, the park for the second year in a row was instead occupied by stalls selling mainland Chinese delicacies and souvenirs -- a five-day "carnival" organized by a pro-Beijing organization.

A heavy police presence at the park and in the bustling Causeway Bay district was a reminder of what was missing, and how much Hong Kong has changed.
