South Korean trainee doctors walk off job over medical student increase

SEOUL -- South Korea was bracing for possible disruptions to health care on Tuesday as hundreds of trainee doctors walked off the job to protest a government plan to increase the number of spots at medical schools.

The Health Ministry announced Tuesday that 6,415 of the 13,000 trainee doctors and interns at major hospitals in Seoul had submitted their resignations, with around 1,630 of them walking out. The strike is going ahead despite the government ordering doctors to continue working.
