Pope, Jokowi call for peace efforts in 'historic' Indonesia visit

JAKARTA -- Pope Francis and Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called for stronger interfaith peace efforts to resolve conflicts around the world, including in Gaza, during their meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The two met roughly for an hour the day after Francis arrived in the capital of Indonesia, home to the world's largest Muslim population. It is the third papal visit to the Southeast Asian country following that of Pope John Paul II in 1989.
