Philippines and Vietnam plan to seal defense MOU this year

MANILA -- The Philippines and Vietnam plan to sign a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation by the end of this year, it was announced on Friday after ministers signed letters to bolster ties in the sector.

The moves, the most comprehensive security pacts between the countries to date, mark a significant strengthening in relations for the two Southeast Asian nations that face Chinese aggression in the South China Sea.
