Microsoft to build $3.3bn AI data center on old Foxconn site

TAIPEI -- Microsoft will invest $3.3 billion to build an AI data center in Wisconsin on land once earmarked for a major Foxconn facility, the U.S. software company and the Biden administration announced on Wednesday.

Microsoft, the major investor in OpenAI, the generative AI startup that created ChatGPT, said the investment in Racine, between Milwaukee and Chicago, will create 2,300 construction jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs over time. It will also provide thousands of skilled working opportunities for locals, according to the White House and the company.
