Malaysia maintains key rate at 3.0% amid falling ringgit
KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's central bank on Thursday left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.0% despite a weakening local currency that is putting inflationary pressure on the economy.
The Bank Negara Malaysia raised its overnight policy rate (OPR) by 125 basis points between May 2022 and May 2023 from 1.75% to 3%. It had kept the rate unchanged since then.
