Kamala Harris faces challenges in attracting Indian American support
NEW DELHI/NEW YORK -- When U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris rocketed to the top of the Democratic ticket, it energized South Asian Americans who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for her campaign and prompted author Salman Rushdie to endorse the first Indian American and Black woman to be nominated for president by a major political party.
But Harris faces challenges in rallying Indian Americans to her cause. Many in the diaspora have been drifting toward her opponent, Donald Trump -- for reasons ranging from Republican support for tax cuts and small business to Trump's ties with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
