Japanese pupils treated in hospital after eating super spicy R18 curry potato chips
Fourteen pupils in Japan were sent to hospital on Tuesday after they ate spicy crisps made by local manufacturer Isoyama Corp. They were among some 30 students who complained of stomach and mouth pain related to the food.
The snacks, known as R18 Curry Chips, are sold with a warning for consumers under the age of 18 and an advisory saying people with high blood pressure and weak stomachs should not eat them.
“I can’t believe it. I didn’t know such spicy chips existed. I heard the students felt nauseous, so it must have been serious. I can’t believe such food exists,” Eiko Nagasawa, a Tokyo resident, said.
Isoyama Corp has issued an apology to customers after the incident.
