Japan urges foreign tech to register HQs to combat online abuse
TOKYO -- Japan's Justice and internal affairs ministries will urge dozens of foreign companies, mainly in the technology sector, to register in the country as part of efforts to curb online misinformation and harassment.
Companies with operations in Japan are legally required to register their global headquarters in the country. This makes it easier for Japanese victims of online harassment and defamation to sue them for information regarding their abusers.
