Japan's Omron to cut 2,000 jobs globally on slow China automation ops

KYOTO, Japan -- Japanese electronics maker Omron is slashing 2,000 jobs at home and overseas, the company said Monday, as its struggling factory automation equipment business in China drives the first major workforce reduction since 2002.

Omron will offer employee buyouts in Japan from April through May. It aims to reduce fixed costs by 30 billion yen ($200 million) in the year ending March 2026 compared with the forecast for the year ending March 2024. This will be achieved by conducting domestic and overseas structural reforms through September 2025.
