Jakarta MRT expansion shows Japan's prowess as China steps up rail push
JAKARTA -- As cars and motorbikes clog the streets of Jakarta, construction workers beneath the Indonesian capital are working to clear the city's chronic transportation bottlenecks, moving mounds of dirt and digging to extend the subway system.
Indonesia is expanding the Japan-backed subway system in Jakarta. The 5.8-kilometer extension, which will run between the Bundaran HI and Kota stations on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta's North-South Line, is scheduled for completion in 2030.
