Intel joins 1.4-nanometer chip race against TSMC and Samsung
SAN JOSE, California -- Intel plans to begin producing chips at the cutting-edge level of 1.4 nanometers in the coming years, the company said Wednesday, as it ramps up its foundry business to compete with the world's contract chipmaking king Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).
"Today we are announcing Intel 14A for the first time," Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said at the company's first foundry event, Intel Foundry Direct Connect. "You can think about this for 1.4 nanometer technology."
