Indian backlash over Google AI 'bias' clouds tech's future
NEW DELHI -- India is ramping up a crackdown on foreign tech companies just months ahead of national elections amid a firestorm over claims of bias by Google's AI tool Gemini.
Last week, the government ordered that companies must get "explicit permission" to deploy experimental AI tools and software for Indian users. That edict came on the heels of a controversy over Google's artificial intelligence platform describing some of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies as "fascist."
