EU official praises green energy push by Malaysia's Sarawak

KUCHING, Malaysia -- Sarawak, a resource-rich state in Malaysia with an ambitious sustainable energy agenda, is drawing interest from the European Union, but the 27-nation group's top official in the country says the bloc needs new cooperative mechanisms for its companies to take advantage of the opportunity.

The EU has pledged 300 billion euros ($325 billion) via its Global Gateway for sustainable development projects. The seven-year strategy was launched in 2021 targeting investment priorities worldwide in digital, transport, climate and energy sectors and basic development areas including health, education and research.
