Japan's stocks rise over 2% as BOJ rate hike expectations build
TOKYO -- Japanese stocks rose sharply on Monday as expectations built for the Bank of Japan to shed its negative interest rate policy.
The bellwether Nikkei Stock Average rose 1,032.80 points, or 2.67%, to 39,740.44 at the closing, putting behind last week's slide. It was the second biggest rise this year. The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index was up 51.19 points, or 1.92%, to 2,721.99.
