MONDAY

New Vietnam leader visits China

Vietnam's freshly anointed Communist Party chief To Lam is due in China at the invitation of his counterpart Xi Jinping. Hanoi says railways, agriculture, tourism and trade are on the agenda, and that the plan is to speak with "frankness" on maritime "territorial issues" during the three-day trip beginning Sunday. This marks the first meeting of the countries' leaders since reports emerged that Vietnam is expanding islands at a pace rivaled only by China's in the South China Sea, where both countries have conflicting claims.

Japan-India 2+2

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Minister of Defense Kihara Minoru hold talks with their Indian counterparts S. Jaishankar and Rajnath Singh. The agenda will include "strengthening a free and open international order" and boosting economic ties.

Malaysia's Anwar heads to India

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim makes his maiden visit to India to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two met for the first time several years ago, but this will be Anwar's first with Modi as prime minister. Malaysia and India are expected to sign several agreements to bolster trade ties.
