HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formally named him on Wednesday (June 5) to lead a new coalition government for a third straight term, a day after it regained power with a surprisingly slim majority.
Experts argue that Modi, who has dominated the government with the BJP’s majority in his last two terms, will be forced to adapt as never before to ensure his coalition partners do not pull the rug out from under him.
Just last year, Rahul Gandhi and the once-powerful party he led, the Indian National Congress, seemed to be on the ropes and little threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consolidation of political power.
