According to Moody’s Ratings, Asia will be the world’s fastest-growing data centre market in the next four years.
Although speculation over the timing of new curbs is a national fixation in Singapore, previous spikes in transactions were often followed by sharp rises in prices, triggering government intervention. Prices of private properties, while having slowed significantly this year, still stand at a record high. “Everyone’s a bit edgy about how prices are staying at these levels despite all the cooling measures,” said Christine Sun, chief researcher and strategist at OrangeTee Group.
Morgan Stanley says “Japan’s policymakers have for over a decade now followed the most coherent, credible and consistent policy mix of any major economy.” The bank believes the thrust of Abenomics will continue under future governments “for the very simple reason that the policy mix has worked”.
Last quarter, JLL data shows that volumes reached US$38.8 billion, the highest level since interest rates began to rise steeply in early 2022.
The facts speak for themselves. In September alone, foreign investors bought a net US$20 billion of Chinese securities, the largest monthly inflow since 2021.
Last year, Japan was the largest source of foreign investment in Australia’s commercial property sector.
Is China at risk of turning Japanese? It is a question that has been asked repeatedly over the past decade as analysts and investors worry that China’s economy is vulnerable to the type of crisis that condemned Japan to decades of deflation and stagnant growth following the bursting of its asset bubble in the early 1990s.
